ABSTRACT

Development of Antibiotic resistance by microbes has been acknowledged as a very serious problem all over the World (“Containing Antimicrobial Resistance”, WHO, 2005). It is expected that within the next 15-20 years we will run out of our stock of antibiotics to fight against any microbe. This makes us rethink about the foundations of Germ Theory which is, as of now oversimplified to consider germ as the sole factor for the cause of the disease. The present work elaborates the other techniques that can help in overcoming the antimicrobial resistance by using approaches to treatment of infectious diseases other than antibiotics like regulation of environmental signals and includes a study of a mind-body model based on system theory and semiotics which can be used in Psychoneuroimmunology to enhance the efficiency of immune system.
